Daisho Con was this past weekend, and I didn’t go to any panels or events this year because I was busy with sketch commissions. This was my second time doing sketch commissions, and oh wow, I can never get used to the rush and panic of it… or is it just me that I get overwhelmed easily. I felt bad for and for my random rage faces at them during my times of stress… oops, gomenasai.
Last time I did commissions was at AMKE 2013, and compared to that, I had more demand at this con. I was getting scared because I started to get backed up on commissions. At AMKE, I had more requests for self-portraits which I was really surprised, whereas for this one, I had fanarts which was nice. It’s interesting too because you discover other series that you don’t know about.
Some sketch commissions I did
With doing sketch commissions, I learned that you just have to pace yourself. With too many, I had to refuse commissions for a bit so I could catch up. Also, once it started getting late in the night, I had to watch my list then too. Did not want any overnighters, lol. Had to tell them to come back the next day to ask for a commission.
I also decided to do small color headshot commissions (pictured above). Not a lot of people went for that, but that was ok. I just wanted to give them a color option. I used copic markers for these, and it made me realize that I need more practice with copics! I haven’t used it enough to understand how the medium works. Maybe I can take small requests on DA…
On Sunday, before my friends and I left, we also tried the tabletop gaming room for the first time. It was pretty cool. They have a vast variety of game boards that you can try out or play all day, lol. There was one we tried called Blokus and that one was fun. Each player sets down a tetris shape piece, one at a time and we try to trap each other. The goal at the end of the game is to have the least amount of pieces in your hand. Whomever with the least wins.
The game of Blokus
This con was so-so, but it's ok. It's a nice break from normal life, lol. Plus, it's always nice to see cosplayers too.
